ACM---Its a COUNTRY night

1st-Reba McEntire should host EVERYTHING!!

2nd-This show really is about performing, having fun and celebrating the year in country...it does award show right.

3rd-The Winners...
LOVE that Miranda Lambert got some serious love....Female vocalist of the year, Album of the year, and Video of the year!!

Carrie Underwood taking home the Triple Crown (which she didn't even know she was up for!) and Entertainer of the Year. I know its been a Taylor Swift year, but in reality Carrie has the pipes times five, so I was surprised-and ecstatic with this one!

Top Male Vocals went to the multi-talented Brad Paisley, with Luke Bryan taking home New Artist of the Year.

Brooks and Dunn nabbed Vocal Duo---a bittersweet win since the mega-duo has decided to split, and tonight was their last ACM performance.

Lady Antebellum took home Vocal Group, Single of the Year, and Song of the Year.

It was a good night for country...good wins, great performances and a whole lot of fun!!

Oscar Fashion!!

Lets start out on a positive note-there were quiet a few!

Sandra Bullock-golden and good-not my fav, but it was nice to see her go a little girly and still have a little fun

Anna Kendrick-just right, though the color on her pale skin and dark hair almost washed her out to much

Miley Cyrus-finally realized young girls look up to her and dressed like a woman who might be young, but is mega successful...though the top could have fit better

Kristen Stewart-just because she was in a dress w/o sneakers!!! and didn't look angry the entire night!!

Rachel McAdams-fun, flirty, young!

Demi Moore-pretty in peach, and the dress fit her, and her personality

Meryl Streep-not really a best, but a much better than what we’ve seen from her

Eizabeth Banks-a bit of a risk, but this was ruffles done right, and the color was outstanding....FAVORITE

Then, there was the confusing, awkward, might have worked-but didn't

J.Lo does bubble wrap? did she want to go home as a party gift? I didn't think it was possible to make her butt look bigger. Sorry, she has a great ass-but there's no need to add a yard of plastic to it.

Cameron Diaz-it was pretty, I'm fairly certain I’ve seen it...on Taylor Swift.

Gabourey Sidibe-shes done a lot better before, this was to old for her

Mo’Nique-again, I’ve seen better....but at least it was full length

Penelope Cruz-I'm sorry, but it was a bit bridesmaid for me...ok, a lot bridesmaid

OK, what you really want---THE BAD!

Sarah Jessica Parker-umm? since when are satin sheets Oscar appropriate?

Vera Farmiga--you might disagree, but i thought she looked like a candy wrapper, and thats not a good thing at the Oscars

Charlize Theron-I love her, but the ‘here are my boobs’ swirls and uber-blonde hair with the red lips and purple dress just did not work. At all. Wow, she is usually so good-this was so bad. Maybe her ex boyfriend dressed her all those years, and now she has to do it herself?

Maggie Gyllenhaal--tie dye-floral watercolor?

Mariah Carey-we get it, your sexy, you have curves, now could you cover up some-or any of them?

Faith Hill-lacey lady-and not in a good way

Anika Noni Rose-broken mirror bustier, add a tablecloth dress and there it was!

Worst?

Zoe Saldana-bad-just bad...like a bad glitter prom top with ombre purple furry caterpillars at the bottom--not good-in fact, my least fav

Diane Kruger-the black ruffle choker and pieces broke it up in funny ways and was so harsh against her skin, and dress color-tie for least fav.

Oscars Baby!

The big night was finally here, and boy did it deliver-lets talk winners, and losers

Best Director: Kathryn Bigelow...eat your heart out James (aka-her ex husband, and biggest competitor of the evening)...that was true directing, and a huge step forward for women!
The Hurt Locker being named Best Picture was also a huge win! A win I was hoping for. I'm sorry, Avatar advanced cinematography and art, but the writing, plot, acting etc were nothing that has not been seen before, it was actually seen before-better, so I was pleased.

Avatar won where it should have, best art directon, and cinematography.

No one was surprised by the supporting winners of the evening:
Mo'nique, and Christoph Waltz

The Best Actor category was taken by Jeff Bridges, as it should have been.

Best Actress was a bit more nail-biting, but alas Sandra Bullock would prevail. Her performance was stunning. Though I feel for Meryl Streep, who is a bit like Susan Lucci....lots of nominations, few wins. However,

The John hughes look-back was awesome, in that he will always be the 80's king! Plus, that cast gathering of Hughes past was amazing!

Precious finally got a little more than Mo'Nique love, with best adapted screenplay.

The sadness was hit when Robin Williams announced the supporting actress category...reminding us all that last years recipient, Heath Ledger was no longer.

All in all, a good show. I was reminded that movie-goers still love a good story over flashy tricks. That even if you picked up a few Razzies the night before, you can still go home with Oscar. That yes, being better than your ex at what many consider his calling, can look and feel, damn good!
It was a good night in hollywood-though I think someone left Farrah out of the memoriam. Hmmm....something to think about until the real dish tomorrow-who, wore what!

Globes Fashion, the ooh, the ah, the ew!

Let start it right off with the EW!

Anna Kendrick-to much...to much glitter, to much ruffle, to much dress! her first major show, her first offense...I'm hoping she can turn it around
Diane Kruger-Did a kindergarten student make the tissue paper looking mess of a dress?
Chloe Sevingy-Ruffles all up and down make Chloe look a mess
Zoe Saldana- Ruffle Curtain madness!!
Jennifer Morrison- Bad color, bad dress! Ugh!
Anna Paquin-What was gold and growing on that dress? That was just a mess...Even if others disagree.
Tina Fey-newspaper party? it was not good....and those Shoes!
Jane Lynch-Ugly color, ugly dress...and she's so funny-this dress, was not.
Patricia Arquette-Was she channeling her brother? isn't he usually the bad dresser....this was a hot mess!

Worst: Made me want to cry saying it, but...Sandra Bullock! Purple sheer taffeta? It was like drag queen prom gone bad!

The Hmmm...otherwise known as...something was off.
Drew Barrymore-Get rid of the tinsel arm and waist...then we'll be good!
Marion Cotillard-Bedroom goes red carpet?
Julia Roberts-was she going shopping? it was cute, for a day out-NOT for the Globes!
Mo'Nique-Great from the front, drapes in the back
Lea Michele-Pretty, but that was A Lot of dress for such a tiny woman!
Jennifer Aniston- We get it, you still hot...and single.
Amy Adams-I get you're pregnant...your not a matron.
Heidi Klum-Nope, she's Heidi...I'm not saying anything.
Christina Hendricks-Cute dress...way wrong color, it washed her out!

The Good
Fergie-Perfect Princess...she wasn't a 9, she was a 10!
Toni Collette-Ladies, this is how you do golden goddess...Anna Paquin, take note!
Kate Hudson-Couture Queen....that was structured style!
Felicity Huffman-Sexy and understated, even if she couldn't remember her lines.
Jennifer Garner-One hot, and classy mama!
Halle Berry-She is smart....everyone is to busy awe-ing at her body to truly notice whats on it.
Olivia Wilde-Wild is right!! So good.
Penelope Cruz-she knows what works, and wears it...all the time.

Best Dressed...Kate Hudson...of the group, it was risky, fresh, clean, and beautiful.

I didn't mention everyone-that's true...but that also would have taken a year....tune in again when I take my taste to the SAG awards, and the Grammys....here's hoping the bad redeem themselves, and the good get better.
Hate it, love it, just make sure you know it.

The winner is....(spoiler for the west coast non-DVR individuals)

While many people are gearing up for the upcoming super bowl, the super bowl of television and film is here!!

The Golden Globes!

Lets hit the nitty gritty...who walked out a winner, and who is be fake clapping and smiling their way through the night...I promise, tomorrows post will be all about the fashion, the people, and all the other globes chatter....but lets hit the win list!!

Best Supporting Actress Motion Picture
Mo'Nique-Critics Choice repeats, and it was the right choice...though her speech mimicked her previous nights.

Actress TV series comedy or musical
Toni Collette-I love her, but her shoe has been fairly absent this season, so Im not sure where this came from...Lea Michele (Glee) would have been a great choice.

Best Supporting actor TV series, mini series or TV movie
John Lithgow....come on, its Neil Patrick Harris's turn!!!

Best Animated Feature Film
UP!

Best Actor TV Series Drama
Michael c. Hall...and he deserved it---1st win?! I mean, really?!

Best Actress TV Series-Drama
Julianna Margulies...um? ok.

Best Mini-series or TV Movie
Grey Gardens...I hope you all saw this coming!!

Best Actress Motion Picture Comedy or Musical
Meryl Streep (for Julie and Julia)...nominated twice in this category had to give you all an idea of who would win.

Best Actor Mini-Series or TV Movie
Kevin Bacon....even he was surprised.

Best Actress Mini-Series or TV Movie
Drew Barrymore...I love her, so it's all good! Plus, her speech was beautiful.

Best Screenplay Motion Picture
Up in the Air

Best Actor Comedy or Musical
Alec Baldwin...not surprised, but i am disappointed, there was so much talent on that list...whats with the lack of Glee love? they sing, act, dance---its a triple threat cast!

Best Series-Drama
Mad Men....anyone NOT see that coming?

Best Supporting Actress in a TV series, mini series or TV Movie
Chloe Sevigny...No, I never understood why this category seems to include everything.

Best Supporting Actor Motion Picture
Christoph Waltz (Inglorious Bastards)

Cecile B Demille Award
Martin Scorsese...well honored, well deserved!

Director-Motion Picture
James Cameron-Avatar....Really? I mean there couldn't have been that much directing in a tech-driven, computer necessary film...Least he was as surprised he was the winner as everyone else was.

Best TV Series Comedy or Musical
GLEE!!! Best Decision made all night!! It is truly a talent powerhouse of fierceness.

Best Motion Picture Comedy or Musical
The Hangover...The globes trying to get the young crowd in?? It was funny, but I've never seen the globes go for drunken frat boy humor...its like the year hip hop won.

Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama
Sandra Bullock....It took a lot of years, but that woman worked for it!

Best Actor in a Motion Picture Comedy or Musical
Robert Downey Jr.--Sherlock Holmes...least his speech was funny and honest.

Best Actor in a Drama
Jeff Bridges...Standing Ovation!

Best Motion Picture-Drama
Avatar...yeah, I wanted to cry...I get special effects award or something, but this movies plot wasn't anywhere near groundbreaking, or for that matter-all that good. Ugh. Precious was robbed, as was The Hurt Locker...anything with depth and humanity and a plot would have been great!!

critics choice...even they cant choose.

Its a Tie!! Last I heard that, I was in gym class and the teacher was still in that 'everyone is a winner' phase of education.

Last night however, I heard it loud and clear, at The Critics Choice Awards. Sandra Bullock and Meryl Streep tied for best actress-and it was one win sealed with a kiss.

The presenter Bradley Cooper handled the tie perfectly, announcing there was a tie, before presenting the award to Streep, allowing her to give her acceptance speech before announcing Bullock as the co-winner.
It was when Bullock got to the stage she decided to have some fun with the tie, and Streep...Her speech was also one of the highlights of the evening, she knew well enough to not take herself to seriously, even commenting about how surprised the critics must have been to even have her in consideration.

The host of the evening was the charming Kristin Chenoweth-the petite powerhouse lent her comedic timing and killer voice to the evening making it less drag-on-ish than normal, thanks.

All in all the evenings winners should be gearing up for the upcoming Globes speeches they may need to make. In the past, the Critics Choice winners were a good bet for the Globes as well. Sunday is the big show, and we'll have to wait and see if they show the same love, or if they throw a few surprises in the mix...Im keeping my eye on The Hurt Locker, and Precious-now theres a tie I could get behind.

Nine Review

Federico Fellini is either very pleased that his film 8 ½ is still considered relevant in 2009, or is rolling over in his grave at the razzle dazzle treatment it was given in Nine. The bigger question is who decided 8 ½ needed a remake? Fellinis’ work was that of a master, so why the need to re-create what has already been done so well.

Many audience members saw only the previews and walked in expecting a film along the lines of Moulin Rouge, what they got was Fellinis’ film within a film concept merging with Moulin Rouge spectacle.

While the musical numbers kept me entertained and awake at points, the rest of the film left me wondering why I didn’t just stay home and watch the original. It is after all the version done by an Italian master. Such a master in fact, the scenes at the beach with Saraghina, played by Fergie, looked as though they had simply been cut out of the original and implanted in this version. At least when they decided to remake Psycho shot for shot, they kept the title.

As for the performances, Daniel Day-Louis had the hard task of stepping into the role of Guido, formerly portrayed by Italian actor, Marcello Mastroianni. His method acting style did him a great service in this; however he still was not an Italian man, in an Italian film, about Italy. Marion Cotillard however, was brilliant as Guido’s tortured wife Louisa, a minimal woman in Guidos’ fantasy life, and a force in his reality. In the end however 8 ½ was a great classic that did not need a Hollywood revival.
